Data Farming DF27 Completes and DF28 Launches. DF Main is approaching

1. Overview
Data Farming Round 28 is here (DF28). DF28 is part of DF Beta, where users can earn rewards up to 75K $OCEAN while contributing to the refinement of Data Farming and Ocean technology. DF28 begins a ticking time bomb to DF Main, where data farming will exit beta testing. DF Main starts on DF29.
To recap, here’s the overall DF schedule.
- DF Alpha — rounds 1–4 (4 wks)
- DF/VE Alpha — rounds 5–8 (4 wks)
- DF Beta — rounds 9–28 (20 wks)
- DF Main — rounds 29+ (decades)
The Ocean Protocol Data Farming program incentivizes the consumption of data assets in the Ocean ecosystem. It rewards stakers with OCEAN who allocate voting power to curate data assets with high Data Consume Volume (DCV).
DF rewards OCEAN mirrors a DeFi liquidity mining / yield farming model, but tuned for data consumption and enables voting power allocated to data assets . DF’s aim is to achieve a minimum supply of data for network effects to kick in, and upon network flywheel spinning, to increase growth rate.
DF25 introduced an updated reward function, where Publishers now receive a 2x effective stake! All veOCEAN that a publisher has allocated (“staked”) to an asset they’ve published, is multiplied by 2x for the rewards calculation.
To participate, users lock OCEAN to receive veOCEAN, then allocate veOCEAN to promising data assets (data NFTs) via the DF dApp.
DF27 counting started 12:01am march 2, 2022 and ended 12:01am Mar 9, 2023. 75K OCEAN worth of rewards were available.
Passive and Active Rewards are now available. You can now claim both Rewards at the DF dApp Claim Portal.
DF28 is live and will conclude on Thursday, Mar 16, 2023.

2. How To Claim Rewards
As a participant, follow these step on how to claim rewards:
- Go to DF dApp Claim Portal
- Connect your wallet
- Passive and Active Rewards are distributed on Ethereum mainnet. Click “Claim”, sign the tx, and collect your rewards
Rewards accumulate over weeks so you can claim rewards at your leisure. If you claim weekly, you can re-stake your rewards for compound gains.
3. DF28 Overview
DF28 is part of DF Beta. DF Beta’s aim is to test the effect of larger incentives, learn, and refine the technology. DF Beta may run 10–20 weeks.
Some key points:
- Total budget is 75,000 $OCEAN.
- Publishers now receive a 2x effective stake.
- Rewards are now distributed based on ranking to increase the quality of assets and smooth out distribution.
- 50% of the budget goes to passive rewards (37,500 $OCEAN) — rewarding users who hold veOCEAN (locked OCEAN)
- 50% of the budget goes to active rewards (37,500 $OCEAN) — rewarding users who allocate their veOCEAN towards productive datasets (having DCV).
- Ocean currently supports five production networks: Ethereum Mainnet, Polygon, BSC, EWC, and Moonriver. DF applies to data on all of them.
As usual, the Ocean core team reserves the right to update the DF rewards function and parameters, based on observing behavior. Updates are always announced at the beginning of a round, if not sooner.
