Crypto data is open, though a lot of the data is raw and difficult to pull insights from. For these reasons, we call on all crypto enthusiasts and problem solvers! We are excited to share our upcoming data challenge, “Deciphering User Behavior in DeFi Protocols”. In this competition, we invite data scientists, engineers, and analysts alike to dive into decentralized finance (DeFi) and unravel the mysteries of user behavior within these innovative protocols. Understanding User Behavior in DeFi
DeFi has experienced unprecedented growth, attracting millions of users and billions of dollars in assets. To enhance these protocols further, we need a deeper understanding of user behavior. Customer cohort analysis, which involves grouping users based on shared characteristics and analyzing their behavior over time, is a powerful tool for unlocking valuable insights. By deciphering user preferences, behavioral trends, and optimization opportunities, cohort analysis can help DeFi protocols enhance their services and meet user needs more effectively.

Leveraging Blockchain Footprints
The transparency and immutability of blockchain technology present a unique opportunity to explore user behavior, heuristics, and bias in DeFi protocols. Each transaction recorded on the blockchain provides a wealth of open data waiting to be explored. Our data challenge aims to tap into the properties of cryptocurrency data to conduct an in-depth analysis of user behavior, helping us gain a comprehensive understanding of the DeFi landscape as of August 2023.
Building Valuable Datasets for Customer Segmentation
The core objective of this competition is to create robust and valuable datasets that enable effective customer segmentation within prominent DeFi protocols. Participants are encouraged to gather relevant data and explore the available tools with thorough purpose. Participants’ datasets should provide insights into user behavior, interaction patterns with different contracts, transaction frequencies, transaction values, and more. The goal is to understand customer analytics and retention in growing protocols.
Submission Details:
The challenge will run from August 3— August 25. Upon completion, participants will publish their datasets on the Ocean Market, a decentralized marketplace for data assets. Contributors can save their dataset CSV file on a hosting service of their choice, such as Filecoin, Arweave, raw GitHub URL, or Amazon S3 bucket. Detailed instructions on publishing datasets can be found in the provided support resources.
Alongside your dataset, participants are asked to provide a methodology explaining the reasoning and calculations behind each feature in your dataset. Clear articulation of your methodology is essential for evaluation. Participants will be judged based on the relevance, quality of data, and clarity of their methodology.
