1. Overview

Data Farming Round 62 (DF62) has completed. 150K OCEAN + 100K ROSE was budgeted for rewards. Rewards counting started 12:01am Nov 9, 2023 and ended 12:01am Nov 16. You can claim rewards at the DF dapp Claim Portal.

DF Main is Here” is a self-contained description of DF. It’s up-to-date with weekly OCEAN budget allocations and how rewards are computed.

Predictoor Data Farmingis a new Ocean incentives program that amplifies predictoors’ earnings, via 37K OCEAN + 100K ROSE (≈$22K USD) in weekly extra sales to Predictoor data feeds [1]. This higher baseline sales also makes Volume DF and Passive DF more attractive.

DF63 is live today, Nov 9. It concludes on Nov 16. 150K OCEAN and 100k ROSE are budgeted in total for rewards.

This post is organized as follows:

  • Section 2: DF structure
  • Section 3: How to earn rewards, and claim them
  • Section 4: Specific parameters for DF63
  • Section 5: Challenge DF Wind-down

2. DF structure

  • Passive DF. As a veOCEAN holder, you get passive rewards by default.
  • Active DF has three substreams.
Volume DF. Actively curate data by allocating veOCEAN towards data assets with high Data Consume Volume (DCV), to earn more.
Predictoor DF. Actively predict crypto prices by submitting a price prediction and staking OCEAN to slash competitors and earn.
Challenge DF. Accurately predict future ETH price; rewards are a function of prediction accuracy.

3. How to Earn Rewards, and Claim Them

There are four ways to earn and claim rewards: passive DF (like before), Active DF : Volume DF (like before), Challenge DF (like before), and Predictoor DF (new).

  • Passive DF. To earn: lock OCEAN for veOCEAN, via the DF webapp’s veOCEAN page. To claim: go to the DF Webapp’s Rewards page; within the “Passive Rewards” panel, click the “claim” button. Ocean docs has details.
  • Active DF
Volume DF substream. To earn: allocate veOCEAN towards data assets, via the DF webapp’s Volume DF page. To claim: go to the DF Webapp’s Rewards page; within the “Active Rewards” panel, click the “claim” button (it claims across all Active DF substreams at once). Ocean docs has details.
Predictoor DF substream. To earn: submit accurate predictions via Predictoor Bots and stake OCEAN to slash bad Predictoors. To claim OCEAN rewards: run the Predictoor $OCEAN payout script, linked from Predictoor DF user guide in Ocean docs. To claim ROSE rewards: see instructions in Predictoor DF user guide in Ocean docs.
Challenge DF substream. To earn: make ETH predictions for specific times; the next section gives an overview of how. To claim: go to the DF Webapp’s Rewards page; within the “Active Rewards” panel, click the “claim” button (it claims across all Active DF substreams at once). Challenge DF README has detailed instructions.

4. Specific Parameters for DF63

This round is part of DF Main, phase 1.

Budget. This round has 150,000 OCEAN + 100,000 ROSE rewards total. That OCEAN and ROSE is allocated as follows.

  • Passive DF: 50% of rewards = 75,000 OCEAN
  • Active DF: 50% of rewards
    – Predictoor DF. 50% except what Challenge DF gets = 37,000 OCEAN + 100k ROSE
    – Volume DF. 50% except what Challenge DF gets = 37,000 OCEAN
    – Challenge DF. 1,000 OCEAN

Networks. Ocean currently supports five production networks: Ethereum Mainnet, Polygon, BSC, EWC, and Moonriver. DF applies to data on all of them.

Volume DF rewards are calculated as follows:

  • First, distribute OCEAN across each asset based on rank: highest-DCV asset gets most OCEAN, etc.
  • Then, for each asset and each veOCEAN holder:
    – If the holder is a publisher, 2x the effective stake
    – Baseline rewards = (% stake in asset) * (OCEAN for asset)
    – Bound rewards to the asset by 125% APY
    – Bound rewards by asset’s DCV * (% stake in asset) * 0.1%. This prevents wash consume.

Predictoor DF rewards are calculated as follows:

  • First, DF Buyer agent purchases Predictoor feeds using OCEAN throughout the week to evenly distribute these rewards.
  • Then, ROSE is distributed at the end of the week to active Predictoors that have been claiming their rewards.
  • You can read the details for how Predictoor DF Reward Amounts work here.

Challenge DF rewards parameters:

  • Submission deadline: Wednesday at 23:59 UTC when the DF round finishes.
  • Prediction at times: Thursday at 00:05 UTC, 00:10, …, 1:00 (12 predictions total)
  • The contestant with lowest error gets 2,500 OCEAN reward. 2nd-lowest gets 1,500 OCEAN. 3rd-lowest gets 1,000 OCEAN.
  • Further parameters are in “Introducing Challenge DF” blog post, and the Challenge DF README (linked from post).

Expect further evolution in Active DF: tuning substreams and budget adjustments among substreams. What remains constant is passive DF, and total OCEAN rewards emission schedule.

Updates are always announced at the beginning of a round, if not sooner.

5. Challenge DF Wind-Down

DF66 is the final round for Challenge DF.

Starting in DF67, the 1000 OCEAN/week will be redistributed equally to Volume DF and Predictoor DF.

The Active DF budget will be 37.5K / 37.5K OCEAN for Volume / Predictoor DF respectively.

For more information, please read the announcement here.

Notes

[1] Source of the $21K USD number:

  • CoinGecko prices on Nov 16, 2023: $0.41 / OCEAN and $0.066 / ROSE
  • $0.41 / OCEAN * 37,000 OCEAN = $15,170 USD
  • $0.066 / ROSE * 100,000 ROSE = $6,600 USD
  • Total: $15,170 + $6,600 = $21,770 ≈ $22K USD
